All members of staff will ideally hold a relevant qualification or have some experience in order to work on camp. This may include childcare, sporting and creative qualifications and/or experience, as well as any of the qualifications gained through taking the courses below. If you are unsure of whether your qualification is valid, please contact us.
The Fencing course is led by British Fencing Trainers, who attend our Training Weekends at selected venues and train a group of up to 12 staff. This is a fun, interactive two day course that will teach you everything you need to know about fencing. The qualification you will receive is: nationally recognised and can be used outside of Barracudas. If you are offered a Fencing Instructor role on camp you will need to complete this course.
Attendees do not need any prior experience in Fencing, this course is ideal for new starters as well as those with a keen interest in Fencing!
Ahead of each season, all those who hold an external Lifeguarding qualification need to demonstrate competency around physical fitness levels and current CPR knowledge, through a Competency Assessment. The first hour will refresh knowledge in: CPR & First Aid, Risk Assessment, Hazard Awareness and Emergency Scenarios.
Led by a trained assessor, this will be signed off and can be used as a minimum of up to 1.5 hours of your required ongoing lifeguard professional development in order to maintain your qualification. You will be paid at your daily rate to attend the assessment.
The Multi Activity course provides a fantastic opportunity to learn to lead two of our favourite activities on camp! For staff that want to teach children new skills in Archery and Motorsports, this day and a half course is for you! We will not only show you the basics, but we will also teach you how to create fun and exhilarating sessions, including some maintenance tips.
Having some experience in leading groups of children would be ideal but no activity knowledge is required to undertake the course, as we teach you everything you need to know. If you are applying for a MA role on camp, you will need to undertake this course to fulfil your contract.
Our online training programme is tailored to your role and will allow you to learn about our Barracudas policies and procedures ahead of your induction training day at camp. All staff must complete the online training; before the start of your employment start date and you will be emailed a few weeks before the start of the season to allow you time to complete it.
We offer a blended 12 hour, nationally recognised Paediatric First Aid course. This is a fantastic course that provides: key life skills, knowledge, and is valid for 3 years. It is also a fantastic qualification to have on your CV. The course offers an introduction to first aid, covering numerous areas including: CPR, bandages and head injuries to name a few. The course also includes a one hour Anaphylaxis training session.
This informative and interesting course takes place over two days; one in person training day and one online learning day. This course provides you with the option to earn extra money by working the Early & Late clubs, which operate from 8:00 until 18:00 at the beginning and end of each day.
If you are new to Barracudas or taking on a new role such as moving from a Senior Sports Instructor to a Camp Manager or stepping up from a general activity staff member to a senior position - this day is compulsory for you to attend. If you fall into either of the categories above and start Pre-Easter, you will also need to attend the training before Summer.
If you are a returning staff member, returning to the same role we will communicate updates ahead of you starting work at camp – further detail will be sent in the lead up to camp!
The Water Park course gives you the opportunity to be involved in setting up and operating the water park at your camp. We provide water parks to camps that don’t have pools or limited access to their pool*. The water park is always a favourite with the children, so if you are looking to learn some extra skills and be involved in leading some popular sessions, then this is the course for you. Water Park training is a fun and energetic, half day course.
*Not all camps have pools. Contact us if you're interested in this course.
If your application is successful and you are issued a contract you will be able to register your interest for one of our training courses. This can be done via an online form which will appear in the staff room.
To have the best opportunity of securing a place on one of our fantastic courses, we recommend filling in this form at the point of signing your contract! Providing there is space, we will book & confirm your place in an email. All relevant course information will be sent a couple of weeks ahead of the course start date.
If the course(s) you have selected are fully booked. We will be in contact with you on how to discuss alternative dates and courses.
If you are offered either a Multi Activity or Fencing Instructor role it is compulsory to attend the relevant training course and you will be guaranteed a place. All courses/qualifications are valid for three years, if you are a returning staff member you may need to renew your qualifications with us.
