As parents, we all want our children to feel confident in themselves and their abilities. However, building and nurturing confidence is not always easy.
Barracudas is dedicated to providing a supportive and fun environment for children to grow and develop their skills while boosting their self-esteem. With a wide range of exciting activities, experienced staff, and a focus on positive reinforcement, Barracudas is the perfect place for your child to build their confidence and have an amazing experience at camp.
There are so many ways they’ll benefit from the camp experience, they’ll gain independence and self esteem as well as developing essential social skills in this child centric environment. They’ll get the chance to shine and develop risk taking and conflict resolution skills, all in a fun, secure and safe environment.
Here are 8 ways kids will build confidence at our holiday camps:
Step out of their comfort zone
Holiday camps provide children with an excellent opportunity to venture beyond their comfort zone. Being in a new setting with unfamiliar faces, staff, and activities can inspire them to push their boundaries and attempt things they never believed possible. They grow in confidence, learning that they’re capable of doing so many things. This positive experience will stay with them for life!
Develop independence
As parents, our ultimate goal is to raise children who can thrive independently, but it can also be a bittersweet journey. Activity camps provide a safe space for kids to begin their journey towards self-sufficiency.
By attending camp, children have the opportunity to explore and make new friends, all while pursuing their own passions and interests. At Barracudas, kids are in control of their own day, choosing the activities that excite them and making their own decisions. This experience helps kids discover their own unique selves and gain valuable independence.
Try new activities
Always fun but often unfamiliar, the activities available at camp always offer new experiences. Trying a new activity can be challenging but in all the right ways. It’s not every day that children get the chance to pick up a bow and arrow or a fencing foil and it’s unlikely they’ll have had the chance to do a lap of track in a motor sports session.
With over 80 activities on offer at Barracudas, they’ll be plenty of new experiences for them this year. Barracudas thinks hard about the activities we offer, and all our sessions have our ACTIVE motto in mind to make sure they're having fun and growing in the school holidays. With lots of developments at Barracudas, there's even more opportunities to grow! Just by having a go at something new, children get a real sense of achievement and more self-belief.
Gain new skills
As part of all these additions, kids will gain a bunch of new skills at camp. From exploring ideas, pushing the boundaries and developing abilities in arts and crafts or science sessions to picking up key skills in Yoga or stop motion animation, there’s a whole host of opportunities for personal development at camp. Without the usual pressure to perform or excel as they’d have at school or specific club, they’ll be able to explore and experiment freely.
Barracudas Skills Builders courses are another fantastic way to boost confidence this year. Not only that, but our Specialist Course are a great addition to selected camps and a chance for more specialist development.
Make new friends
Children have had limited peer-to-peer socialising opportunities over the last couple of years. Thankfully now, they can come together again both at school and outside of school. An activity camp is another fantastic chance to develop relationships. In a camp environment, children are very much supported by the staff to learn appropriate social interactions.
Children will encounter a diverse range of peers and gain valuable insights from their new friends. Additionally, they may develop their self-esteem by meeting someone who shares their interests or traits. At camp they’ll benefit from the emphasis on personal growth, friendship and fun.
Develop social skills
Activity camps provide kids with the chance to interact with a larger number of peers than they typically would, as these children come from diverse backgrounds, live in different villages or towns, and attend various schools, all while possessing an array of interests. Our camps promote teamwork, cooperation, and negotiation, which all enhance the children's social skills and bolster their self-assurance in managing social situations.
Barracudas offers a great opportunity to develop emotional intelligence. Just by taking part in the activities and interacting with a diverse group of children, they’ll learn about tolerance and respect. We love to see children’s confidence grow as they talk to new people and get to know one another better.
Positive reinforcement
At camp kids will learn they are capable, creative, talented, athletic and more besides. Barracudas camp staff are super encouraging and inspiring.
Barracudas camp staff are exceptionally supportive and motivating, helping kids identify their unique strengths and feel valued and acknowledged for them. The team assists children in comprehending their strengths and weaknesses, fostering positive growth and development throughout their time at camp.
Screen free fun
Whilst they might not recognise it, even children get screen fatigue. Whilst some would say they just want to be on their screens, we know how much appreciate being part of the outside world. At camp, there’s a full day of screen-free time. Out of sight and out of mind. And children really benefit from a whole day of activity.
Children socialise very differently online. Away from the screen in face to face environments, they can better see the value in different opinions, communicate better and resolve issues and conflict. All of these in-person experiences are bound to improve their confidence and self esteem!
We’re looking forward to a year of fun and hope we can see your child at camp!
