Our 2026 Camp Age Groupings: Designed for Fun, Built on Trust
At Barracudas, everything we do starts with one simple aim: to give every child an unforgettable school holiday experience that’s packed with fun, friendship and adventure, all within a safe, supportive environment parents can trust.
That’s why we’re always reviewing and refining how our camps run. For 2026, we’re excited to share our updated age groupings, introduced following thoughtful changes made in 2025 and shaped by feedback from families like yours.
Why We Reviewed Our Age Groups
In 2025, we lowered our minimum age from 4½ to 4 years. This change came from popular demand, but most importantly, we only introduced it once we were completely confident it was the right decision for our camps and for the children attending.
We took the time to ensure our environments, activities and staffing were perfectly suited to younger children, making sure they would not only cope, but truly thrive and have an amazing time.
As a result, we’ve reviewed our age groupings and made practical, well-considered adjustments for 2026. These changes allow us to continue delivering the very best camp experience at every stage of childhood, without ever compromising on safety, wellbeing or fun.
Our 2026 Age Groupings at a Glance
Each age group has its own tailored programme, carefully planned activities and dedicated staff ratios to suit children’s developmental needs.
Early Years (Ages 4–5)
Staff-to-child ratio: 1:8 Maximum group size: 24
Our Early Years groups enjoy a camp experience designed just for them. With smaller group sizes, higher staffing ratios and a dedicated programme, younger children feel safe, supported and confident from day one.
A Programme Made for Early Years
Activities are adapted to be developmentally appropriate while keeping excitement high. Children enjoy options such as:
Electric go-karts instead of motorsports
Foam fencing and mini games
Creative, imaginative play and hands-on discovery
Each day includes:
Explore ’n’ Play: A classroom-based session focused on role play, creativity and exploration
Active Play: A movement-based session to build fine and gross motor skills through throwing, catching, jumping and more
Children stay with their group throughout the day, with opportunities for smaller-group activities based on their preferences.
Consistent Staff & a Dedicated Keyworker
Early Years children are supported by consistent staff who stay with them throughout the day and week, helping build strong, trusting relationships. Every child also has a dedicated Keyworker (Group Leader) responsible for their wellbeing. A familiar team member is available at drop-off and collection each day, giving parents reassurance and regular updates.
Building Confidence & Independence
Through gentle routines like self-registration, making choices and practising self-care, children are encouraged to grow in confidence and independence — always at their own pace.
Ages 6–7
Staff-to-child ratio: 1:10 Maximum group size: 30
For children aged 6–7, our camps strike the perfect balance between structure and growing independence. With groups supported by three members of staff, children feel secure while enjoying age-appropriate challenges.
Activities are adapted to suit their development, including:
Electric go-karts
Foam fencing
Team sports
Problem solving games
At this stage, children are developing socially, emotionally and physically. Our programme encourages teamwork, communication and problem-solving through small-sided team games and cooperative challenges; all delivered in a fun, supportive way.
Each child is assigned a Keyworker (Group Leader) who oversees their welfare. Parents are always welcome to speak with their child’s Group Leader for updates or reassurance.
Ages 8–10
Staff-to-child ratio: 1:13 Maximum group size: 32
This is a fantastic age to be at camp. With growing confidence, longer attention spans and plenty of energy, children in this group make the most of everything Barracudas has to offer.
Sessions focus on safe learning through FUN, with plenty of opportunities for teamwork, skill-building and independence. Our supportive staff help channel enthusiasm into confidence and positive social development, while still prioritising each child’s individual wellbeing.
Staff continue to provide excellent childcare support, including reminders about hydration, hygiene, sun protection and healthy eating.
Please note: Depending on the overall age mix at camp, 10-year-olds may be placed in either the 8–10 or 10–14 age group.
Ages 10–14
Staff-to-child ratio: 1:15 Typical group size: Around 30
Older children enjoy a wide range of activities that challenge them both physically and mentally. At this age, children value their individuality while also enjoying being part of a group, and our camps offer plenty of opportunities for both.
Through shared activities, they build teamwork, resilience and interpersonal skills, often forming friendships that last well beyond camp. Our experienced staff support them as they try new things, develop talents and grow in confidence.
BX+ for Ages 12–14: The Next Step
For older children ready for something a little more grown-up, our BX+ course offers an exciting progression. Designed especially for 12–14 year olds, BX+ blends all the high-energy fun of camp with opportunities to develop leadership and life skills.
Children can:
Enjoy their favourite camp activities
Build confidence and responsibility
Shadow our team for part of the day
BX+ is included at no extra cost when added to a camp booking and is a brilliant way to keep older children engaged, inspired and excited about coming back.
Always Improving, Always Putting Children First
These updated age groupings are a great example of how we continually review and refine our camps to offer the very best experience for every child. By listening to families, adapting thoughtfully and putting safety and wellbeing first, we create holiday camps parents can trust, and children can’t wait to return to.
We can’t wait to welcome your child to Barracudas in 2026 for another year of safe, supportive and seriously FUN school holiday adventures. 🎉
