Summer Camp Week 4 Highlights: Diving into Ocean Adventures!

What a fantastic week it's been across our Barracudas camps as children embarked on our exciting Ocean Adventures Weekly Theme!

From exploring life beneath the waves to discovering fascinating sea creatures, children have been diving into a world of creativity, imagination and adventure. As well as our unrivalled choice of activities, swimming sessions, premium experiences and specialist programmes, we've enjoyed another unforgettable summer camp experience this week.

Despite the soaring temperatures and ongoing heatwave, our camps continued to provide safe, active and engaging experiences thanks to our robust hot weather plans. Our teams adapted timetables to make the most of cooler mornings, scheduled activities in shaded areas and followed our "Slip, Slap, Slop, Slurp" approach to help children stay safe while having fun in the sun.

Exploring Ocean Adventures

This week's Ocean Adventures theme inspired children to dive beneath the surface and discover the wonders of the sea through creative, imaginative and hands-on activities.

Across camp, children explored ocean-inspired crafts, games and themed challenges while learning about the underwater world around them. Explore 'n' Play, Arts and Crafts and Active Play sessions brought the theme to life, encouraging creativity, teamwork and curiosity.

We loved the fantastic themed artwork from across the summer displayed at registration and collection at Orpington camp, creating a colourful and welcoming environment for families. Early Years children also benefited from well-planned themed activities and engaging storytelling experiences.

Keeping Cool During the Heatwave

With temperatures remaining exceptionally high throughout the week, our camp teams did a fantastic job ensuring children could stay active safely.

Outdoor activities were prioritised during cooler parts of the day, shaded spaces were used wherever possible, and children were regularly reminded to refill water bottles, apply sunscreen and take breaks when needed.

Our teams showed great adaptability, meaning children continued to enjoy everything from sports sessions and swimming to arts, crafts and themed activities while remaining comfortable and safe.

Making a Splash Across Camp

Swimming continued to be one of the most popular activities of the summer.

Children at camps including Brighton, Canterbury, Harlow, Harpenden, Letchworth and Salisbury enjoyed safe, fun and engaging swimming sessions led by our experienced lifeguards and camp teams.

Canterbury's swimming programme was a particular highlight this week, with strong lifeguards delivering well-organised sessions that children thoroughly enjoyed. At Letchworth, excellent swimming provision and experienced lifeguards continued to impress both children and parents.

Whether building water confidence, developing swimming skills or simply having fun with friends, pool sessions are always a big hit at camp. As well as swimming, children have also been loving our outdoor water fun activities, making good use of the aqua slide, super soakers and fun sponge games.

Unrivalled Activities and Premium Experiences

With over 80 activities available and children choosing what they do throughout the day, every week at Barracudas offers something different.

This week's highlights included:

  • Swimming

  • Motor Sports

  • Archery

  • Yoga

  • Kin-Ball

  • Arts and Crafts

  • Active Play

  • Explore 'n' Play

  • Coding Courses

  • Team Games and Mini Olympics

At Canterbury, Motor Sports, Swimming and Yoga proved particularly popular, while Sevenoaks impressed with engaging Kin-Ball and Arts & Crafts sessions.

Children attending our Coding Course at Cambridge St Faith's were fully immersed in their projects, with excellent engagement and enthusiasm throughout the week.

At Harlow, children enjoyed a range of exciting sports hall activities including Benchball, Skittleball and Mini Olympics, helping them stay active while developing teamwork and confidence.

New Experiences and Behind-the-Scenes Excitement

This week also saw the trial of a new interactive screen activity at Chelmsford, giving children the chance to experience an exciting new addition to the activity programme.

Meanwhile, our videography team visited camp to capture some of the incredible moments that make Barracudas so special. From sports and creative sessions to friendships and themed activities, they have been busy filming content that we'll be sharing soon.

Looking Ahead

As we head into the final stages of summer, there is still plenty of fun to come.

This week marks the final week of camp for Chelmsford, Ely and Upminster, while many of our remaining camps will close next week. Camps at Bushey, Chislehurst, Hemel Hempstead, Horsham, Norwich, Streatham & Clapham and Twickenham St Catherine's will continue the week after, giving even more children the opportunity to enjoy a memorable summer at Barracudas.

With more themed adventures, premium activities, unique experiences and Friday Finale celebrations still ahead, we're determined to finish the summer in style.

A huge thank you to our amazing staff, children and families for helping make Week 4 another fantastic week at Barracudas. We can't wait to see what the final weeks of summer bring!
