Keep Kids Moving This Summer with Activate with Joe Wicks

Staying active during the long summer break can be challenging, especially when regular routines are disrupted. Now in its second year, Activate with Joe Wicks sees the fitness coach once again partnering with the award-winning animation studio Studio AKA to help keep children moving throughout the school holidays. The campaign offers a simple, fun and engaging way to encourage kids to stay physically active all summer long.

Last year this fun campaign generated over 59 thousand hours of children's activity and movement. As keeping active in the school holidays is something we're also passionate about, we couldn't be more behind it!

What is Activate with Joe Wicks?

Activate is a series of short animated workout videos designed for children. Joe Wicks MBE leads each session, supported by colourful and engaging animations created by Studio AKA (the team behind Hey Duggee). The idea is to encourage kids to take part in quick bursts of movement that are easy to follow and enjoyable to do; no equipment or special set-up needed.

This fun campaign is backed by the the Department of Health & Social Care and Department for Education and Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

Each episode blends fun, storytelling, and physical activity to help kids stay engaged and active throughout the summer, whether at home or on the go.

The importance of children keeping active

We know how important physical activity is to improve physical and mental well-being. With more screen time than ever, it can be a challenge to make sure children are getting the levels of activity needed for optimised growth and development. According to the ONS:

  • 53% of UK children are not meeting daily activity guidelines

  • Nearly 1 in 5 children leave primary school with obesity

Activate aims to make fitness feel fun and accessible by sparking a genuine enjoyment of movement in children. The videos feature bright, energetic characters and are set to well-known, upbeat tracks, thanks to an exclusive partnership with Universal Music UK. It’s designed to capture kids’ attention and get them moving without it feeling like a chore.

With many parents looking for ways to keep their children active during the long break, Activate offers a positive solution; turning screen time into active time, and giving kids a boost in both physical and mental wellbeing over the summer and beyond.

How to Get Involved

Taking part in Activate with Joe Wicks is easy. Parents and children can watch the free videos on Joe Wicks’ YouTube channel. New episodes will be released during the summer holidays, so there’s always something fresh to try.

Whether it's a morning energy boost or a mid-afternoon break from screen time, these short videos offer a great way for kids to stay active throughout the day.

Why Barracudas Supports the Campaign
