October Half Term Camps: Where Champions of Fun Come to Play
October half term has a habit of arriving quickly. One minute everyone’s settling back into school routines, and the next there’s a whole week to fill.
For children, it can be a much-needed chance to switch off from school, get active, spend time with friends and simply have fun. For parents, though, there’s often another question to answer: how are we going to manage childcare around work?
That’s where Barracudas comes in.
This October half term, we’re ready to welcome children aged 4–14 for action-packed days filled with activities, choice, new experiences and plenty of opportunities to make memories.
Because when it comes to school holidays, we’re Champions of Fun.
What makes an October half term at Barracudas so much fun?
Children don’t all enjoy the same things, and we don’t think their school holiday should expect them to.
That’s why a typical day at Barracudas includes six activity sessions, with a choice of activities every session.
Our timetables are built around our ACTIVE Motto, helping us create days with a brilliant mix of:
Active: opportunities to move, play and burn off some energy
Creative: time to make, imagine and express themselves
Teamwork: games and challenges children can enjoy together
Inspiring: chances to discover something new and build confidence
Variety: plenty of different activities throughout the day
Energetic: keeping the fun going from morning to afternoon
The important bit? Children have a say in their day.
Whether they love getting stuck into energetic games, being creative or enjoying activities with new friends, having a choice each session means there are plenty of opportunities to find something they enjoy.
Mystery, Mini Monsters and a little October magic 👻
We love making each school holiday feel special, and our Weekly Themes add an extra helping of fun to the Barracudas experience.
For October 2026, we’re getting ready for Mystery & Mini Monsters!
Throughout the week, children can expect themed twists on activities, mysterious challenges, autumn-inspired fun and plenty of opportunities to use their imaginations.
And while there might be a monster or two along the way, it’s not all about Halloween. Our theme is designed to be fun and inclusive for children across our age groups, combining the excitement of the season with activities everyone can get involved in.
And then comes the Friday Finale!
There’s nothing quite like ending a brilliant week on a high.
Our Friday Finale brings the weekly theme together, giving children a fun conclusion to their week at camp and something extra to look forward to.
It’s all part of making a week at Barracudas feel like much more than childcare. We want children to go home with stories to tell, achievements to be proud of and a big smile on their face.
What activities are available at October half term?
If you’ve joined us during Easter or summer, you may be familiar with some of our specialist sessions, including motor sports, archery and fencing.
These specialist sessions aren't part of our shorter half-term programmes.
There’s a good reason for that. Specialist activities require specifically trained team members and additional equipment and set-up. During shorter school holidays, availability of these specialist teams is more limited, so rather than trying to squeeze these sessions into a five-day programme, we focus on delivering a varied, high-quality timetable of our core Barracudas activities.
Children still get six activity sessions each day, a choice every session and plenty of variety.
And, of course, our Mystery & Mini Monsters theme adds even more seasonal fun to the week.
Why are school holiday camps good for children?
By October, children have already spent several busy weeks back at school. Half term provides an important change of pace, but that doesn't necessarily mean spending the week at home.
A good school holiday camp gives children opportunities to move, socialise, play and explore interests outside the classroom.
At Barracudas, children can:
Stay active with games, sports and energetic activities
Build confidence by making their own activity choices and trying new things
Develop social skills through group activities and teamwork
Make new friends and spend time with other children
Explore their creativity away from the pressures of schoolwork
Enjoy some independence in a safe and supportive environment
Most importantly, have fun!
For some children, camp is an opportunity to discover something they didn't know they enjoyed. For others, it's simply a chance to spend the day doing more of the things they love.
Both sound pretty good to us.
October childcare that works around working parents
We know the school holidays can be challenging for working families.
Annual leave only stretches so far, grandparents and family aren't always available, and juggling meetings, deadlines and childcare can turn what should be a welcome half-term break into another thing to organise.
Barracudas is designed to make things a little easier.
Our standard camp day runs from 8.30am–5.30pm, giving children a full day of activities while parents have a full day of childcare.
Need a little more flexibility? Our Early & Late Clubs extend the day from 8am–6pm, helping families fit camp around commuting and working hours.
You can also choose the days that work for your family. Book individual days or the full week. you don't have to commit to every day of half term if you don't need it.
More ways to manage the cost of October childcare
We also understand that October half term comes at an expensive point in the year. Summer isn't long behind us and Christmas is already creeping onto the horizon.
That's why we offer a range of ways to pay, including:
A range of debit and credit card payment options
Klarna can be particularly helpful for last-minute October bookings, as eligible parents can choose available Klarna payment options at checkout to spread the cost rather than necessarily paying the full amount upfront.
That means even with only a short time left before camp starts, there may still be an option to make the cost more manageable.
And if you're eligible for Tax-Free Childcare, you could receive a government top-up towards your childcare costs, making your October half-term arrangements go even further.
Maximum fun for them, peace of mind for you
Ultimately, we think a great school holiday should work for children and parents.
Children want fun, friends, activities and the freedom to make some choices of their own.
Parents need safe, reliable childcare that fits around real working days, without the logistical gymnastics.
At Barracudas, we bring the two together.
With six activity sessions a day, a choice every session, our ACTIVE timetable, Mystery & Mini Monsters theme and full-day childcare, October half term can be something the whole family feels good about.
So, while you're getting on with your working day, they can get on with the important business of being a Champion of Fun.
