Fun in the fresh air is one of the hallmarks of Barracudas day camps, where outdoor activities for kids are a priority.
Parents know their young ones do more than enough lazing around in front of a games console or lying in bed on their tablet – and that’s why we have come up with kids’ activities to get them going.
Remember, Ofsted have graded us “Outstanding” more times than any other childcare provider. We know your child and what they want to do, whether they are four or 14, and our kids’ outdoor activities are tailored by age group.
Four-and-a-half to six years old
These go-getters are too old for toddler outdoor games and need a bit of structure alongside their free-play. We get outside with kids and keep them moving with outdoor play activities that engage young minds.
Our outdoor activities for kids could be as simple as shooting for the sun with our Water Rockets or brushing up on Football skills that improve their co-ordination, timing and physical confidence.
There’s the gentle rough-and-tumble of Tag Rugby and we introduce them to other sports and kids activities – Kwik Cricket or Tri Golf, anyone?
The little ones can work off excess energy during our Inflatable Fun sessions. And who doesn’t love a Nature Trail where you can fill your lungs with healthy fresh air and marvel at what the world has to offer?
Seven to ten years old
Our outdoor games ideas for the seven-and-ups take account of their growing abilities. Kids at this age are developing teamwork skills and have longer attention spans – they get more involved in the games. But they are also more independent. We nurture both sides when we get outside with kids.
Fancy getting stuck into some team sports? Well there’s those old faithfuls of Football, Softball and Rounders – kids’ outdoor activities that get them rooting for each other.
Or if you’re looking for outdoor activities for kids with a touch more magic, how about some Quidditch? And there’s no need to worry about anyone falling off their broomstick – we keep all our wannabe Harry Potter’s rooted to the ground.
We also feed their minds, with Orienteering and Den Building getting them thinking. Meanwhile, there is Tennis and Archery – which is one of our Ten Top Sports for Kids to Try – that get them moving and improving their co-ordination.
Still not excited by our kids’ activities? Well, how about roaring off on a Quad Bike – safety gear provided, of course.
Eleven to fourteen
Family outdoor activities sometimes get this age group rolling their eyes. So we have learned to keep it fresh to hold their interest. There’s no time for our campers to check out Instagram on their phone when there’s a game of Pop Lacrosse on the go, that’s for sure.
This is the age when we start to mix up our outdoor games ideas. Kwik Cricket and Football not quite cool enough for you? How about Croccer? It mixes up cricket and football in a fun hybrid played with a soccer ball and a cricket bat. Or there’s Ultimate Frisbee, a kids’ activity that mashes up Frisbee and American Football-style rules but without the need for all those pads.
Of course, there is still the opportunity for them to channel their inner Andy Murray or Johanna Konta with some Tennis, or shoot arrows during Archery sessions – two of our much-loved kids’ outdoor activities.
Den Building also engages those ever active brains, while Quad bikes and Karting really ramp up the adrenaline.
With all this going on, we're sure your kids will have such an amazing experience with us that they won't be able to wait to come back!
