Summer activities laid on in schools across the UK

Schools across the country will be laying on a range of summer activities for children, according to one expert.

Director of sport at the Youth Sport Trust Alison Oliver said kids will get the chance to try a range of activities such as cricket, rugby, sailing and football.

She suggested parents encourage their offspring to take part in sporting pastimes, as doing so will boost their fitness levels and confidence.

"Sport has an ability to unite, inspire, motivate and challenge young people," Ms Oliver added.

And she noted the Youth Sport Trust is determined to "build a brighter future for young people through PE and sport".

Ms Oliver explained the schemes have been successful so far because of the investment and young people of all ages and abilities can get involved.

Last week, in an interview with the London Evening Standard, headteacher at South Harringay Infants School Tinka Rojas observed gardening activities can boost children's communications skills.
