Lack of children's activities 'leading to overweight kids'

Too many snacks and chocolates mixed with a lack of activities for children are causing youngsters to put on weight, new research has revealed.

A study by analyst company Datamonitor found British kids are becoming obese at twice the rate US children are by eating double the amount of sugary treats.

According to the Daily Mail, the survey claimed that less exercise and the prevalence of children spending more time on the internet rather than enjoying outdoor activities are compounding the issue.

Jackie Schneider of the Children's Food Campaign said: "Childhood obesity is a very worrying trend. However, we can do something about it."

She claimed that it is important that the government introduces new policies to ensure the long-term health of the country's youths.

In an article for the Daily Telegraph earlier this month, Cassandra Jardine commented that children's activities can help kids get closer to nature and the environment.
