Parents have been encouraging their kids to try activities like cricket, as they believe it can help them improve their grades in the classroom, according to a new study.
The Cricket Foundation an independent body that relies solely on donations - launched the Chance to Shine scheme in a bid to get more than two million children playing the game by 2015.
Personnel from the organisation carried out a survey that revealed 66 per cent think competitive team sports like cricket can benefit youngsters.
Around 35 per cent of mums and dads said they believe team games boosted confidence levels, while 25 per cent noted it provided discipline.
Of those quizzed, 20 per cent stated exercises like cricket increased motivation and 11 per cent said it helps youngsters to concentrate.
England all rounder Andrew Flintoff remarked: "I believe every child has the right to play competitive cricket at school and to learn skills that they can use throughout their lives."
