Hula hoops 'are in demand'
Published on 24-03-2010
Summary: One of the most popular activities for children might be hula hooping.

The influence of Sport Relief's hoopathon, coupled with high-profile people who try new activities, might be responsible for the boosted regard of hula hooping.
Classes in Yorkshire are booking up with increasing speed and fitness instructor Victoria Lakin has seen a noticeable impact on her lessons.
She said: "It's going to be a massive craze around here because it's just by word of mouth that I've got so busy. People have been ringing up from all over."
Described as a low-impact method of exercising, the Daily Mail noted that the hoops of today have grown in size since the original toy version and now give a full body workout.
In addition to the influence of the White House's first lady, the paper suggested that Nintendo's Wii Fit Hula Hoop game could explain the success of the traditional activity.
Benefits of the sport appear to extend beyond fitness, with Becky Williamson and Valerie Orsoni recently declaring in a Media News Group article that hooping is both cheap and fun.
