Activities for children increase Ofsted rating for Rochford school

Summary: Activities and storytellers make a positive impact on failing school.

Clubs and activities for children are one of the many improvements made by a school that has managed to improve its Ofsted rating from 'failing' to 'good'.
Waterman Primary School in Rochford has built activities into its educational provisions and as a result has shot up in the estimation of Ofsted, according to the South Essex Echo.
Students now have the choice of lunchtime pursuits and visitors such as storytellers have helped to engage the children, it was reported.
"We are doing really well and the school is now on its way up. Pupils are more interested in lessons, which improves their attitude and behaviour," acting headmistress Rachel Welch told the paper.
Since September, new management and teaching staff have been working to improve the lessons, led by executive headteacher Debbie Rogan.
This follows recent government investment of £12.5 million into a bike provision scheme, as a means of encouraging school children to try new activities.
