Children's activities 'embedded in UK education'

Activities and excursions for children outside the classroom are rising in number and the UK is leading the way, it has been observed.

During an EU-funded convention in the Lake District, education experts from nine different countries discussed extra-curricular activities and the Guardian reports that the UK appeared to set the best example of outside learning.

Education beyond the schoolroom is embedded in a number of organisations, the paper explained, many of which have been accredited by the government's Learning Outside the Classroom (LotC) badge scheme.

The LotC has awarded the badge to more than 500 different companies ranging from power stations to offices.

"I think it is important that our children get as many different experiences as possible. Learning outside the classroom gives them an extra dimension and engages them academically," said Joan Nix, school curriculum area manager for Sunderland.

CBN recently reported that a 30-minute break improves attention spans during the school day, following a study by Gallup.
