Do children have more time to exercise?

Children might want to get into the habit of taking exercise at an early age before the demands of adult life start to take up free time.

David Styles of The Leader-Post said: "We continually fill our plates with a never-ending list of tasks. Realistically though, most of us can spare time to improve our health with some exercise."

The benefits of exercise extend to social interaction, Mr Styles explained, and people who enjoy similar activities would know that they already share a common interest.

Activity options available include team sports, fitness classes, walking and jogging around a local park, the report suggested.

The UK government recommends that children and young people get at least one hour's exercise a day.

While Mr Styles agreed that this would be ideal, he conceded that making a conscious effort to get active around three or four times a week is a good start.
