New military doll to inspire girls?

Young girls may be inspired to go outside and try new activities by a new female military doll that will appear on the market at the end of the year.

Made by Character Options, the toy has been modelled on Royal Navy medic Kate Nesbitt, who was awarded the Military Cross after rescuing a fellow soldier in Afghanistan, the Daily Mirror reports.

The figurine comes equipped with a pistol, rifle and first aid kit and a spokesman for the manufacturer remarked that the aim is to "capture girls' imaginations and get kids off the sofa and playing outdoors".

It is expected to retail at £12.99 and the spokesman continued, saying that it is "a step up from the stereotype that a toy must be pink to appeal to girls".

This comes after Parent Dish recently reported that American Girl released Lanie, a blonde-haired toy intended to tempt children to spend time outside and to help reverse trends such as rising levels of depression in youngsters.ADNFCR-2577-ID-19587734-ADNFCR
