Kids 'should try new activities early'
Published on 24-01-2010
Summary:

If children try new activities at an early age, it could be the key to a lifetime of healthier living.
Councillor Rob Lewis, cabinet member for sport and leisure at Pembrokeshire County Council, makes the assertion in light of the football initiative being operated in the region.
He tells the Tenby Observer: "Winning youngsters over to sport and club-based activity encourages healthy exercise and good habits from an early age."
While Councillor Lewis's observations relate to the Fun Football scheme currently in operation in Pembrokeshire, they could equally apply to children who try new activities while at summer camps in England.
Football is just one of the activities that summer camps in England are likely to offer.
Others include team sports such as rugby and netball, head-to-head games like tennis and solo activities such as swimming.
Whichever pursuits a summer camp has to offer, the children who take part could be getting a grounding that will see them remain fit and healthy for the rest of their lives.
