Play 'essential' for child development

Children who constantly try new activities at home and in the playground may benefit later in life, as an industry expert has noted that such pastimes are useful in improving their learning.

Shannon Robinson-Beland, who oversees the Born Learning scheme - which helps families provide early learning opportunities for their kids - observed: "When it comes to kids, play is work," the Citizen of Laconia reports.

She remarked that by engaging in play, such as drawing, building blocks and dressing up, youngsters are improving their understanding of how to interact with others and the way the world operates.

"Play helps prepare children for school, for work and for life in general," she said.

Ms Robinson-Beland advised parents to consider getting their kids to help with chores such as the laundry, during which colours and textures can be discussed.

Born Learning operates in collaboration with the United Way of America, the Ad Council Civitas and the Families and Work Institute.ADNFCR-2577-ID-19520205-ADNFCR
