Eating habits developed as a child 'follow through to adulthood'
Published on 31-10-2009
Summary:
The exercise and eating habits people develop when they are children follow them through to adulthood, it has been claimed.
Charlene Shoneye, a dietician at obesity prevention charity Weight Concern, said there is evidence to suggest that youngsters who are overweight will continue to be an unhealthy size throughout their adult lives.
"We know what the health consequences are of being overweight as an adult. It's really important for their general health and wellbeing as well," she commented.
As well as taking part in activities such as those offered at summer camps, Ms Shoneye said it is important that children enjoy a balanced diet in order to prevent illnesses in the future.
Writing for the Telegraph earlier this week, Sammy Margo, chartered physiotherapist and author of The Good Sleep Guide and the Good Sleep Guide for Kids, said not exercising enough can impact on the quality of rest children get during the night.
