Dance discovery helps youngster to get active

Summary:

A teenager from London has explained how discovering the art of street dance helped him to get healthy.

Rhys Paisley was struggling with his weight and reluctant to exercise before he signed up with a local dance group at the age of 11, the Daily Mirror reports.

Now 15, the youngster has been revitalised by his hobby and is keen to share it with others.

Rhys told the newspaper how dance - an activity offered at many summer camps in England - has transformed his life.

"Since I've been dancing I've felt loads better," he explained.

"I now have lots of energy and I even get to teach some of the younger kids which is really rewarding. Doing exercise also helps me to concentrate at school and not be so distracted."

The profile of street dance in the UK was recently boosted by the success of Essex-based dance troupe Diversity, who won the third series of Britain's Got Talent earlier this year.
