Summer camp 'can take the burden' for overwhelmed mums
Published on 28-07-2009
Summary:
Signing children up to activity courses can be a great way to entertain them for part of the six-week break.
Joanna Moorhead, a mother of four and writer for the Independent, said it can be overwhelming for many mums who are not used to having their children around all of the time.
However, she urges parents not to despair, saying having a "few aces up your sleeve to preserve your sanity" is essential, such as enrolling children onto activity camps.
Ms Moorhead signed her ten-year-old daughter Miranda and Catriona, 7, up to dance courses, saying it can free up vital hours each day.
The mother said many summer camps will also be able to cater the courses to the children's needs, or be able to put them in different classes which suit them better.
However, Ms Moorhead said parents should also enjoy the summer and not rush through it and wish it to be over.
Enjoying the time alone while children are at summer camp, but also relishing the time together afterwards is essential.
The Times has also recommended summer camps as a good way to fill the holidays, saying many parents who work are often at a loss at what to do during the long break.
